How long does an Insurance company have?

Out of the blue, today,my partner had a letter regarding an accident over two years ago in a hire car,asking for payment for the damage to the other veichle.........At the time we provided them with the hire companies infomation, and this is the first contact, surely this cant be right:confused:

    Fraid so. Just send it to the hire company who will pass it to their insurers.

    Surely its got to become invalid at some point.........two years to make contact why?

    It becomes invalid after 6 years.

    And could be any number of reasons.

    Could also be the hire car company have said their insurance isnt responsible and you are...

    Right, crazy, that they are still working on the case two years later, with no contact untill now. Beggers belief it really does, we only got the letter by chance, we have moved house twice since then! It was addressed to an old address.

    Not really no! Because this is the first contact and the letter was forwarded by the Royal mail redirection, it was only posted a few days ago, but thanks for your helpfull comments!

    Yes but its quite possible previous attempts to contact you have been lost due to your move.

    for example they may have used couriers to get signatures etc

    Only moved a couple of mths ago,from that address so its still at a minimum a year and a half to make contact, I find that pretty shocking to be fair!
    And from the wording of the letter it seems to be their first letter, no mention of we have been trying to contact you, it reads like a first correspondance.

    Well tbh who gives a stuff if you find it shocking. Its the law.
