Sainsbury's Discriminate against the Unemployed.

Yes it is discrimination on risk grounds which is perfectly legal and justifiable.
If you were promoting someone for a job, would you discrimate in favour of the better candidate? Of course you would.
I think the word is being misused here.
Discrimination happens all the time. Most of it is legal and justifiable.
In employment peopel are disriminated for and against on a merit basis ALL the time.
What is illegal is discrimination PURELY on the grounds of gender, race, disability, secual orientation etc.
Insurers are not doing that.
They are discrimnating on the basis of RISK and not purely the factors above.
I realise it's perfectly legal and justifiable - that's why I used it as an example

This is utter nonsense. Discrimination? No.
I can understand Sainsburys as the unemployed are clearly likely to be more. An easy solution - no insurance cover.0 -
I am currently unemployed and Sainsburys gave me by far the best quote last year. I have also never made a claim in 37 years of driving and was alarmed at how every quote except Sainsburys was loaded because of my recent jobless status. I had a continuous employment record of 38 years until redundancy last year.
I am hoping Sainsburys come through with another good offer again this year. If I fail to get a decent quote would i be able to claim a rebate if I get another job or become self employed down the line ?0 -
Just called Sainsburys Bank car Insurance and have been told it's only new customers they are rejecting and current customers like myself will receive a quote. Will have to see what they offer as I have seen some decent quotes on compare the market website.
Sainsburys are not the only insurer who declines to quote unemployed people and I am aware they base quotes on stats but it's not like I am the long term unemployed is it ? I have worked 37 years out of 38 since I left school and need a car to get to my next job hopefully.0
