HSBC missing cash deposit!

Hey, went into the bank on friday afternoon and deposited some cash over the counter along with a cheque. Just been to a cash machine and it tells me sorry i don't have enough money! Checked my online banking now and that deposit of cash nor the cheque show up even though i did it through a human teller!! Still got the deposit slip and am pretty sure the teller even entered it into my account cause she did use her pc and also filled out her cash deposit slip that they have on their side. Very strange!

Am i entitled to any compo for this as i'm meant to be paying the landlord today and obviously i don't have the cash now and dunno if HSBC are going to mess me about for it!

Did you pay the cash and cheque in after 3.30pm on the same paying in slip?

I think there are counter notices telling you if you do this it won't be credited until the next day, but if you pay cash in separately it will be credited the same day.

Can you pay your LL by cheque?

  • Why didn't you pay your landlord in cash then?

Likely answer is that you deposited the cash after the end of day cut off for cash transactions. What time of day did you deposit. Also some banks treat cash and cheques deposited together as a 'mixed deposit' which clear in line with the cheque clearing cycle - i.e. Tuesday in your case.

    Compo? No hopeo.

This may well be related to the breakdown of HSBC Computer system on Friday, in which case you may well be entitled to some compensation.

My bad!! I used the same deposit for both the cash and cheque AND i deposited it around 3.45pm!! I've previously used the same deposit slips for cash and cheque but always had the cash go in straight away BUT i've always done the banking way before 3.30pm! Thanks for the info guys i'm now a tad bit wiser!

Hope you get it sorted - can you not give the landlord a cheque?
