train travel to Cornwall

Can anyone help please? I need to go to Cornwall for a friend's wedding in May and need help finding cheap train tickets or split tickets from Paddington to Redruth or Truro.
The dates - travelling down on Fri 7th May and coming back on Mon 10th. Is it best to wait for cheap tickets to become available 12wks before? Or should I try and buy cheap tickets by splitting the journey? Any advice welcome.
If anyone can direct me to where I can find recommendations for cheap accommodation in either Truro or Redruth that would be great. I'm not working at the moment and this wedding is doing my head in! I really want to go, but I'm not sure I can afford to. Grateful for all help.

    Tips;
    1. Use this website to see when the direct cheap advance tickets (Should be the cheapest way) are released, watch the dates for First Great Western.
    2. Split at Exeter and use Megatrain from London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids and then cheap Advance tickets from Exeter St Davids to Truro, just give yourself plenty of time to make your connections (30-45 mins)
    3. If intitled to a railcard (16-25/HMF or Senior) then get one.

    Sorry, can't help much with the accomadation but you could try Premier Inns £29 per nite offer nearer the time :confused:

    Both these things are worth doing. I.e. look for cheap Advance Singles and also consider splitting.

    Nearer the date, consider Megatrain from Waterloo to Exeter StDavids...
    e.g. on 5/8 Feb, London to Exeter by Megatrain can be £10 each way.
    £6 Advance Singles are widely available between Exeter StD and Truro.

    Compare that with a Super Off Peak Return London - Truro at £82.60.

    eta...
    oops... late again. :rolleyes:

    There is no point in buying split tickets now - you will only get full price ones which would be the same if you bought them on the day.

    Wait for the cheap tickets - and THEN check if splitting might be cheaper still.
