Two types of Insurance needed

I need two different types of insurance, any recommendations would be appreciated.

1) Insurance to cover the cost of a villa we have booked direct with the owner. He does not take credit card so will have to send a cheque. Just want a safety net insurance. Villa is in the USA (Florida)
2) Either a single trip or Multi trip insurance to the USA. Only going for 11 days and not planning other trips this year.
Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Miken,

Sending payment by cheque offers little financial protection. Why not ask them if they accept paypal? Ideally, they should offer a solution to pay by credit card.

Where did you find the villa, is it advertised on a homeaway website? If so then they offer a rental guarantee should it turn out to be a scam.

Have you talked to the owner on the phone, do you have an address for them, get testimonials from past guests...

    Just some ideas to consider.

    Booked through VRBO.COM.
They offer insurance to cover problems but being an American site, was not sure that it would be right for me.
Have spoken to the owner, lives in the Midlands, see,s a genuine type of guy. Assures me that he will not be doing a runner. Easy for him to say I just want some security.

Homeaway own vrbo so you can register for their rental guarantee if you have concerns. http://guarantee.homeaway.com/

    Hope this helps.
