Just been reading your diary - very sorry to hear about the job loss today.

DH was made redunant in August - a month before we got married and two months before I became a full time student again! Talk about worst timing ever! But he found something within a month and he is so so much happier! I promise you, things do and will turn out OK in the end

Hi Minipoos I recognised your name from the ebay challenge and £2 saver threads, both of which I'm doing. I'm sorry to hear about your job news today - I hope things work out for the best for you. Keep your chin up, and you'll be just fine :)

Thanks loads guys. Nice to hear there can be light at the end of the tunnel. Everything happens for a reason, and I keep telling myself that one day I'll look back on this and be grateful that I was forced to find something else. I just hope that day is sooner rather than later!

    Thanks x

Not much to report. Sold another book on Amazon, so haved upped the total in my sig. OH managed finally to get a set of tyres for the car, from a friend of a friend of a friend.... £50 for 4, including steel rims, which is an amazing price for really good tyres, and we can now try to sell our alloys, which hopefully will get in a few more pounds. And I knew our old ones were getting bad, but now they're off and we can see them clearly - OMG, so glad we got them off when we did

My 2nd job boss has been an absolute star, and has been bending over backwards to try to get me extra shifts. The plan is for me to work as many as I can in the next 3 weeks (while I'm on my 3 week temp contract) so if it does end there, at least I'd have built up a bit of cash to help us out a bit.

Friends and family are offering to babysit if I need to go for any interviews etc. I kinda feel overwhelmed by how nice everyone is being.

And the good news on the running shoe front, is that I DON'T need really expensive ones. :D Because I under-pronate, apparently all I need is a really cushioned pair, which if I look around I should be able to get for around £30.

    Plans for this week-
    Get some stuff on Ebay
Try making home made yoghurt (cheaper than shop bought!)
Register for Race For Life with DD (I know it costs money, but it's for an extremely good cause)

  • Another book sold on Amazon today! Brings our 2010 selling profit up to £49.71 :D

Went for another run/walk tonight. In the rain! Wasn't too bad - glad I went out (as I really didn't want to!). Hurt a lot (still in old trainers), but at least I did something. We've both been recording everything we do on a great website called Fetch Everyone - it's really great for motivating you to do more! And you can even count the time you spend on the Wii Fit :D)

We were going to have a 'finding things for Ebay' night tomorrow night, but OH has agreed to do an extra shift on his 2nd job, so have put that off until Thurs. Having said that though, I have a few odd bits I can stick on without him being there.

Been a long day, so I'm gonna go enter some comps, then go to bed!

    Night all x

  • Not over much to report. Still waiting to find out whether my work will keep trading, and have applied for a couple of other jobs too. Fingers crossed.

The selling total is up to £109.71, as OH managed to sell one of his collectables to a friend. And got £31.85 from Quidco too. If everything does work out ok, I'll make an overpayment off the biggest CC, but for now it's just sitting in the savings while wait for judgement day.

And I've had a setback on the running front. I've torn some of the fibres in my calf muscle, which is massively painful and is gonna stop me running (well....run/walking!) for 4-6 weeks. As soon as I can I'm going to go the the specialist running centre and have my gait looked at, as it seems to be because I'm not wearing the right sort of trainers. Might have to look at calf sleeves too, as I do seem to have a weak spot there.

Still, things could be a lot worse, and apart from the occasional blip I'm keeping positive.

  • We were supposed to take the dog for her yearly jabs on Friday, but one of the cats was looking a bit poorly, so I took him instead. £59 later, he'd had two injections and hopefully will be feeling better soon. As well as a respiratory infection he had a flea bite that he was allergic to, and the vet recommended Frontline. I picked some up from our local animal feed store, and had to get enough for both cats and the dog, so that was another £37
And then, I'd moved the dogs jabs to Monday, but i've just got in from work today and the other cat has started sneezing, so will have to take him to the vets on Monday instead of the dog. I'm gonna have to put the dog off until Friday (2nd job payday), but can't really wait any longer than that. It's so annoying though - I've been busting a gut to work as many extra shifts as I can while the whole work thing is so uncertain, and then it's practically all going to go to the vets :mad::mad:

Still, I'd rather have the animals healthy and happy than unhealthy and unhappy.

It does sometimes seem that it's not worth trying to get extra money, because something always comes along and takes it. I'm not going to get all defeatist and give up though. I'm just having a quick whinge, then I'll get on with it again :)

Happy valentines to you all :heartsmil

The 2nd cat's vets bill came to £38, so over the last 4 days our pets have cost us a grand total of £135
And we've still got the dog's jabs to look forward to on Friday :(

I had just over £100 in the savings account from MSing, Quidco and Amazon, and was leaving it there for either an overpayment or for Mum and Dad, but have just had to transfer it to the spending account, to make sure we don't get any o/d charges. Bit gutted, but at least it was there for us.

Had a telephone interview today, and I passed it, so have got to have a face-to-face one sometime in the next 3 weeks. Quite pleased, but it's not a very good job, so hoping i get some positive feedback from one of the better ones I've applied for. Nice to have some plans falling into place though. I've got a different interview on Wednesday too, for a part-time job. The hope is, I get it and manage to get my original job back, then I'll have 40-45.5 hours per week which is what I want. Plus this new one is flexitime, and a fair bit of it can be done from home, so that would be excellent on the childcare front.

Now off to check the Jobcentreplus website again :)

  • I've had another book sell on Amazon, so that's another £3.68 profit added to my total.

And the interview for the part-time job I went for on Wednesday went really well. I GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!:D:j:D:j Such a massive relief! And, there's been murmerings at my old job - the vibe seems quite good for most of us to get our old jobs back with the new company. Nothing is definite yet, and nothing can be sorted until after the liquidators meeting next week. Really keeping my fingers crossed though.

Hopefully OH can get the loft hatch open for me tonight (I can't reach :o) then I can go up and sort through my old textbooks to see what I can put on Amazon. I've got quite a lot, and some I didn't need but bought off of a friend for next to nothing years ago, after he got a similar degree to the one I'm in the middle of. Then while he and DD are out Sat morning, I can get them all listed. Must make a big effort to get some things on Ebay too. I've neglected that recently, mainly because Amazon is so much quicker and easier, but we do have some stuff that won't go on Amazon, so really must get my butt in gear!

Just read your diary minniepoos and CONGRATULATIONS on getting the job!!! :j:beer::T

I run (but on a treadmill at home) and have looked at the site you recommended so thanks for that.

I can sympathise with you with the extra money thing - every time I get extra money (which is a VERY rare occasion) something always comes up to take it away and usually a bit extra on top!

Have subscribed to your diary to follow your progress.

Thanks ever so much, both of you :D:D

I have thought about losing Sky (especially as they've now changed their broadband usage limits) but would really miss Sky+. I know that's a bit lame, but with both of us working so many jobs we'd end up never being able to watch what we wanted together (and we don't have a video or DVD recorder). Couldn't live without 24, The Bill (:o) and of course...Desperate Housewives (:o:o:o)!

Unless of course you can use the + with the freesat channels? But then I wouldn't get Sky1 so would miss 24. In the overall scheme of things I know it's just a programme, but I am reluctant to lose it.

If it came to it, and we were not keeping up with our plan then I guess it would have to go. At least that is something we could cancel if we needed to.

I've just re-read that and it does sound really lame, but even though we are chipping away at our debts we still want to have a little fun.

Oh god, now that bit makes it sound like the only fun we have is sitting in front of the telly! :rotfl:

Right. Enough rambling - we've got a Torchwood on Sky+ that needs watching!!!!:rotfl:
