No I think it sounds like a normal working environment.

If you are moody and huffy, especially around big customers, then you can expect a slap on the wrist which is coming.

Your OH either needs to lump it or leave.

I think he is a professional person and as such needs to find a way not to have days when he is in a bad mood or is marmitey, I am afraid. Yes, he may be excellent at his job and flexible and technically great, but in a customer facing role he needs to find a way to be cheery and professional at all times.

Has he tried asking boss for feedback on a) how he is doing and changes they'd like to see and b) what he has to do to get extra shifts?

If he was happir before field work, is there an option to go back to his old role?

sounds to me that he is going to have an informal chat with your OH and tell him to buck his ideas up.

I do feel though it needs to be said....

    1) Overtime is not a right
    2) You choose to live out of London, trains not working is not a valid excuse for not attending work on time. It is not the businesses fault.

tbh I suspect lots of little things have culminated into this telling of. My suggestion is to tell your OH to keep his head down and get on with it.
