CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION

A credit card company has set up a credit card account without my permission. I have a mastercard, but now they have issued me with a visa account. I wrote a credit card cheque to go on to the mastercard, but got it transfered to the visa. I initally thought they had upped my mastercard limit, thats why I wrote the credit card cheque. I haven't signed any documentation to set up the visa account.

Happened to me a while back.
I used to have an RBS Advanta card, and I stopped using it and they opened a MINT card for me, without having applied for it.
I should have complained at the time, but could not be bothered.0 -
Not sure if it's legal0

Not sure if it's legal
there is something about this type of thing that can make it illegal, not sure..... :-/
Did Marks and Spencer not do this type of thing with their &More card?0 -
It does sound dodgy though i suspect that RBS or whom ever has a "clause" in the contract/terms and conditions that allows it....Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....0

I think it was not M&S but someone similar.
And it's not the same issue.
The store gave storecard customers a credit card (MC/Visa) - a completely different thing, with different Ts & Cs.
In this case, all you've been given is another card on the same account, presumably under the same Ts & Cs.
Just cut it up and return it if you don't want it.0 -
It's a different account number0

Yes it was M&S - they issued their new credit card to their current store card holders and got a slap for their trouble because it is illegal...0

my mistake! sorry! :-/0 -
It was M&S! They used to just have a loyalty card, like the boots advantage one (and lots of others), then brought in a credit card where you collected points if you used it. And they sent the credit card to everyone who had a loyalty card without asking if they wanted one.
But that was naughty as the customers hadn't applied for a credit card. This time, the OP has just got a different card, so I'm not sure if it's the same thingMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

juno,
M&S did NOT have a loyalty card. They had an M&S only credit card (i.e. you could only spend there). And then they issued a regular VISA/Mastercard (the &more card).
You are right that it WAS M&S though - my mistake - because they never upgraded my old M&S card. They didn't get very far into the upgrade programme before they got slapped for doing it, and stopped.0
