Gas Fire fault-new house-can I ask the seller to pay the invoice on completion?

Hi guys
Firstly, I am in Scotland. The house we bought has a faulty gas fire. The fault was intimated to the sellers solicitor in the correct timescale and the seller has to pay to rectify the fault otherwise they are in breach of the missives.
Has anyone ever been in the same situation and got the seller to pay the invoice directly rather than us having to pay the invoice and then claim the money back from the seller?
We don't have the money to pay the bill upfront and possibly have to wait weeks to get the cheque. We have had to wait 3 months to get a decision from them on settling the bill. It was only when I got in touch with my insurance company that they have started to offer to pay up.
Don't want to pay out this money and then be back at square one where they do not pay up again and we are out of pocket.
Many thanks
