Lloyds TSB withhold £50 joining bonus

Hi all,

Around January I signed up for a Lloyds TSB current account to get the £50 joining bonus.

Unfortunately they are now withholding the bonus.

As far as I can tell from my notes made at the time, there were 2 conditions attached to getting the £50 bonus:

1) Pay in at least £1000 salary per month for 3 months
2) Log in to your account online at least 3 times

I've met these 2 requirements. The reason I've been given for them withholding the cash is that the salary transfer was not done through their account transfer unit. I don't have any record (written or otherwise) of that condition.

Has anyone else encountered this or a similar problem with receiving the £50 bonus?

Kind regards,
Eliot

Did the same to me. I think you had to use their switching service to transfer your salary across...

I switched my current account to Lloyds in April and I specifically asked them if the salary transfer had to be done through their 'transfer unit' because I noticed this in their T&C's. I was told that provided they could see that money was going into the account every month they would give me the £50.

They did indeed pay me the £50 after only one months salary had gone in, despite not using their transfer unit.

Did you switch any DD/SO's to the account? If not they may have twigged that you're just after the £50 and are using the transfer unit thing as an excuse not to pay.

If you are genuinely using this as a current account I think this is worth pursuing with Lloyds, if you're just transferring a grand in and out every month I'd write it off.

  • I had months of problems and explained I got no where and have wasted so much of my time.

I wrote a letter to excutive director ( people on consumeraction.co.uk/forum got hold of name ) and I demanded money for my hassle.

They paid my £50 with £25 to say sorry! excellent result Try it

I actually asked for £86 but couldn't be bothered after all the time, I have the letter still though if you'd like? just pmk me with your email address

Thank you all for your responses.

Robert_Harper_2000, I'm sorry to hear you went through that hassle, but well done for getting the fifty pounds and more for your time. A copy of that letter that got Lloyds to pay up would be great, thank you so much. I'll ping my email to you right now.

As an aside, I think Lloyds expecting us to use their transfer unit is unfair to the self employed; I'm self-employed and so take care of paying salary into the account and as a result I didn't feel the need to have a transfer unit coordinate this, it is easier for me to do the switch.

Have you told Lloyds this? I did have a few problems with the customer service people, but the supervisor I spoke to was very helpful.

I'm currently in the process of switching and the account transfer unit is taking care of all the direct debits and standing orders. However I am taking care of transferring my salary across as I thought it would be easier and safer under my control. I have asked Lloyds on several occasions now whether this excludes me getting the £50 bonus and they have always stated that it doesn't, so this thread is kind of concerning me. Link below is the £50 that I found, which just states 'switch your existing account through our transfer unit and set up a regular monthly payment of £1000 or more within 2 months of account being open and we'll credit new account with £50'. My salary will start going directly into the new account on the 15th of next month so will be tracking it closely to make sure theres no funny business

  • I got my fifty pounds in the end! Lloyds were refusing to budge. They gave in when I named one of their branch staff who had told me over the phone, after reviewing my account, that I would be paid the bonus.
