We have been given an estimated date of completion of 16th December, however our solicitors are being very quiet when I ask for an update. I have emailed and left messages with them and nothing. However, they are sending us the results of searches every now and then so I know they are still working on our sale.
We haven't done anything about the deposit yet, I believe there is a money laundering clause that says we have to tell them where the mortgage deposit is coming from 14 days in advance, they haven't asked anything about this.
Any advice? Will our estate agents be able to tell us anything more or should we just stop worrying?!

I assume the contacts have not yet been exchanged? They can't be exchanged until you sign them."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

A completion date of 16th December looks rather optmistic if contracts have not even been exchanged, nor even signed - there are only 8 working days left."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Estate Agent might be able to get information, it could be that the sellers solicitors are being slow and the EA can chase them up.
Never heard about the 14 days notice for money laundering, your solicitor should have obtained photographic ID and proof of address to comply with money laundering, this is all that is needed AFAIK.I'm proud of my advice, if others want to look I say enjoy the show!0 -
Who has given you the completion date?0

The solicitors - it wasn't guaranteed, she said "i'm hoping for mid-december at the very latest", so the 16th was my estimation.
They haven't seen our ID yet, she said we just need to take that in when we go in and sign the contracts? Does that sound right? My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1747.02 | Barclaycard: £4429 3567.32 | Paypal Credit £322.71 0.00 | Total £5,314.34 | £1,678.47 of £6992.81 paid off since diary started October 2024.0 -
Well it sounds fairly average but technically the law requires they check you ID before undertaking any work for you - alot dont do that though - naughty solicitors!!0

So it wasn't given at all. I assume it was in response to a question you asked.
House purchase transactions don't run smoothly as everybody has their own agenda and all sorts of issues arise. Your sellers may be happy to stall the transaction into the New Year. Completion normally tales place on a Friday in the week.0
