Car or train?

I am thinking of going on hols to France sometime in the nearest future. Was going to take the car as I would like to go both to Paris and the south of france... What would be the best way of doing this in regards to price and so on train or private care?

If you live anywhere near Sheffield or Coventry Thomsonfly have some brilliant prices to Paris.

then - take the TGV down to the South of France - go to https://www.sncf.com
play with the web site varying the times until you see the PREMs prices come up (they will be marked orange) you can get some brilliant prices (I got Paris to Agde for 25 euros) - persevere with the the site to get thebest price it's worth it!

or - Eurostar are currently offering London to Montpelier for £54 one way, not sure if you can break your journey, you certainly stop for an hour or two in paris

or if you are prepared to skip Paris Ryanair have some good prices mid week to Carcassone, Perpignan, Nimes and Montpellier

There is a very good train Service in the south of France from St Raphael going east via Cannes, Nice, Monte Carlo. You don't really need a car and the traffic jams can be horrendous. Also Perpignan going east via Montpellier, Marseille and Toulon is good aswell. St Tropez and the vicinity is not accessible by rail but by bus. I think a combination plane, train and car hire might work well, depending on where you want to go.
