Insureandgo Insurance Claim Problems!

My camera 'disappeared' between the hand luggage x-ray machine and London.
I couldn't find my camera when I was on the 'plane, but assumed it was deeper in my bag and that I would look for it later.
I got home and the camera wasn't in my bag.
All this happened on Sat pm- Sun am
I wasn't sure who I was supposed to report this to. I emailed insureandgo on Sunday to ask whether I should go to the police.
Got no reply (hardly unsusual because it was a Sunday). On monday still no reply.
I rang them early this morning (Tues) and they said I would have to contact Ryanair, report the camera missing and have Ryanair email/ write a letter back stating that I had filed a report with them.
The insurance company told me that Ryanair could even include 'WE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY LIABILITY FOR MISSING ITEMS'.
I told all this to Ryanair but was informed that I had to have reported the camera missing AT THE AIRPORT.
Obviously the point I knew for sure my camera wasn't in my bag was when I got home. The flight arrived in the UK at 12 am and I was more concerned about being able to get back to South London. Thoughts of the camera flew from my mind.
Insureandgo tell me that because I didn't contact the police within 24 hours and because Ryanair are refusing to write a letter to state I have reported something 'missing', my claim is likely to be declined.
What am I to do??
I have a feeling the camera was stolen (I've rang up Lost Property at both airports and zilch, also there are numerous pickpockets in Granada!) and I'm pretty upset about all this.
On another blah note: Those bloody 0870 numbers I'm having to ring are costing me a bomb!
