Sky Protect: Is it compulsory?

Hi all,

A woman from Sky Customer Services (she gave me her ID details) phoned me a couple of time last week asking me to endorse the "Sky Protect" plan. She told me that "it's mandatory" and asked me for my debit card details (6 pounds each month or 60 pounds a week). She also told me that I can't say "no, thanks" and if I decided to reject it, they put me on their Sky "black list".

Is it true? A warranty contract for the Sky parts (remote control, decoder and cables) is mandatory? or Can I refuse it?

What happens if I refuse to endorse this Warranty contract? Could Sky cut off me the signal (that I regularly pay for)?

Thank you very much for your help.

You can refuse. They are just another firm trying to flog you insurance. It's your call whether you want insurance or not. They can not blacklist you/get your signal cut off

Of course you can refuse. They can't make you part with your money and no way is it mandatory. Don't you think if it was, it would be a part of your subscription?

If you get anymore phone calls the same, just say "No thanks!" and hang up.

I doubt very much that it was Sky themselves, it seems like one of the dodgy companies that have a backdoor access to Sky's Database, which would appear to breach Data Control.

Do 2 things,Lodge a complaint with Trading Standards & the Police, the woman who called you was trying to extort money by deception imho.
They may have a open case on the company concerned.
Then call Sky & make them aware of it,you may get some compo for the distress this has caused.
As an ex-Sky employee,I can say the others here are correct & Sky DO NOT have any mandatory repair policy,It's recommended, but not compulsory & neither can they turn off you're viewing.Only Sky can do that!
