Wage deduction

Hi, my employer has decuted my wages this month, now nothing was put in writting about this, however 2 weeks ago because my son was ill i taken 2 days off but i had no holidays owning, he ask me what should be done and i said I will leave it up to you!, I believe a meeting between the 2 directors was held, but i was not brought in to the meeting. Now my payday is tommorow and i only got the wage slip today. Any advice??

    well, you didn't offer to make up the hours, or deduct from next years holiday, so I am unsure why you have a problem with the deduction?

    In my place of work emergency childcare provision is always unpaid.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
    New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

    As Emmzi says above, you have not suggested anything to the contrary, and an employer is hardly going to offer you payment if you do not make a fuss about it! It may be too late, but why don't you ask if you can take two days holiday from next year to use for the two days you were off so that you can be paid this on your next pay slip? Or, you will just have to take a deep breath and live with the fact you weren't proactive enough when you needed to be! Please don't think i'm being harsh, but when you have kids you've got to be able to think ahead as childcare needs are often unpaid. :-)

    As others have said, you already gave the boss go-ahead to do what he wishes. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but asking for the days to be somehow paid would've been the best option in the first place, when the boss asked you what to do :o

    No idea what type of company you work in, but to have a meeting with the company directors regarding the rather simple matter of someone taking off 2 days for childcare seems quite a stretch. Are you sure that was what the meeting was about, if the meeting actually happened at all?

    Without knowing a great deal about your set-up, your options are probably as follows:

    1) Accept the loss of 2 days' pay, given that you effectively gave the boss licence to dock you in the first place
    2) Have a word with your boss about possibly amending next month's pay to make the shortfall up - which would depend on company policy regarding this matter
    3) Try to call in 2 days' holiday from next year's allowance (again, depends on company policy)
    4) See if you can secure a couple of days' overtime to land in December's pay packet

    Whatever options are open to you, it's probably quite unlikely that you'll see any additional payment until December's payday at the earliest, as your wage slip has already been issued.

    I'd also suggest having a chat with your boss about what you'll both assume is to be done next time you have a childcare emergency :o

    Yes, the advice is - next year keep some holiday for emergencies!!

    Emergency childcare is always unpaid, you have to take it as holiday or unpaid leave. Why would someone pay you for staying at home?

    Maybe it's time you read directives of what you are and are not entitled to as during your working life you might get into many similar situations (are doctor appointments covered? sick days? etc).

    You need to read your employer's "employee handbook"
    and direct.gov.uk is a good site for employment laws.
