New Freeview TV not picking up digital channels

Hi

I need some advice please and apologies if this has been asked before, but I can't see anything similar that makes sense!

I bought a new 15" freeview tv/dvd for my daughters bedroom for Christmas. At the moment we have an old sky box in the lounge where I used to subscribe to sky but no longer do, so i guess this is freesat?? In my daughters bedroom there is an extension from sky (the cable i think) that allows her to watch channels 1-4 terrestrial (but the picture is quite fuzzy) and sky in her room but she can only view the same channel that is selected on the box in the lounge. This picture is really clear.

When i tried the new TV, it searched and only found the 4 terrestrial channels, which were still fuzzy, but not the sky one. It searched for, but didn't find any digital channels. I tried it in the lounge and same thing, although this time it didn't attempt to find any digital channels.

Obviously i'd like her to be able to use the new TV as a freeview TV, but am not sure what I'll need to have installed to get it to work? There is an old TV ariel in the loft which I believe was connected when we first moved in but after I had sky installed, am assuming they just disconnected it?

So, my question is, how do I get the new TV to work as a freeview TV in my daughters bedroom - do I need to reconnect the old ariel in the loft and then have a cable to her room and ditch the old sky cable? Her bedroom never had a TV extension/socket prior to installing sky.

Also, if this was the answer, would this effect the TV in the lounge which is not freeview but as i said, has freesat?

Sorry for the long post but wanted to give as much info as I could.

Thanks in advance of any advice.

it needs a good quality signal from the rooftop aerial to her bedroom , not the one from the Sky box

If you have a cable from the lounge sky box to the bedroom it will work as follows:

Tune the new tv in bedroom into sky by putting the sky channel on tv guide so you can easily distinguish it when it appears on screen.

Get a tv-eye link to go between the cable from sky and the aerial input on the bedroom tv.

She can then view all channels nice and clear via sky and change channel as she pleases.

Ideally to get digital channels on her bedroom tv it would require a good aerial and if your in a bad location an indoor one may not suffice and you will need an outdoor aerial to pick up the digital signal.

If there is an aerial in the loft, then where is the aerial socket for it? Is the lounge Sky box plugged into it?

Maybe if it's not, then the fuzzy picture on the 4 (analogue) terrestrial channels is not being up by any aerial, but purely by the length of cable running between the lounge and bedroom.

If you can identify the aerial socket, I would take your daughter's TV to it and connect it straight to it without any Sky box, etc, connected. If the analogue channels are much better, then try tuning in the digital (Freeview) ones.

If you get this far, then post back for more suggestions.
