MFI slate card

Hi all,

A friend purchased a sofa from MFI aprox 4 years ago and paid on finance, she has never purchased anything on finance before so was a little unsure when doing so. She seems to remember it was 44 payments of £46, the sofa was aprox £1600, and the APR was 19.9%.

She signed the agreement and a few weeks later received her sofa.

She has never had any letters, statements or in fact any correspondence since the original purchase. After the 44 months were up they continued to take the direct debit amount of £46 so she called them to find out why they were still taking the money and they told her that her balance was still over £1000 and that she had taken out a 'slate card' which she never received.

If this was a credit card type of account then surely she should have received monthly statements and the opportunity to pay more each month instead of the minimum amount?

Any help with this will be much welcomed.
