Safe to send item to PayPal unconfirmed address?

I'm really confused now as my buyer has an unconfirmed address with PayPal and thus its inelligble for the payment protection. The item is worth £100 so I'm really unsure of what to do.

I've seen the thread on this page, but trouble is, I need to sell this item immediately and can't really be waiting. However I have just emailed the buyer asking him if it would be possible to confirm the address.

I didn't even envisage this. Can I refuse to send it to the winning bidder as they don't have a confirmed address with PayPal?

In fact, does anyone know how long the confirmation process takes? I'll be sending the item via Royal Mail Special Delivery if this makes a difference.

Thanks!

    it's up to you really

what is the persons feedback like?, what's their history (i.e. is all the feedback for E-books, do an advanced search for items by bidder and then see what else they've been buying, check selling too!)

if feedback's quite high, then there's a good chance it'll be safe
if it's low, and / or they're a new user, don't do it

trouble is, you have left yourself open to a non performing bidder if you haven't specified that PAYPAL ADDRESSES MUST BE CONFIRMED in your auction, BUT, i'd personally rather have a neg for not selling than risk being 100 quid out of pocket

personally i'd offer them a 5% discount to pay by cheque / bank transfer (which is what roughly what paypal would have cost anyway), but i've got over 600 feedback so buyers dont mind, if you've low feedback, they may be cautious

you're right to post by special delivery, if it goes missing you can claim from royal mail

at the end of the day it's a bit of trust here really, most buyers aren't scammers, use your noggin and get a 'feel' for the buyer

Has the buyer paid for the item? if YES then just send it to the address stated in paypal, use Special Delivery or the relevant Post Office Service. Most people will reply to your email asking for confirmation of address just give them time too not everyone goes online each day. As noted above see what the persons feedback like to see what others have said.

But like I said if they've paid and the moneys sitting in your account then just send the Item I don't really see the problem.

bleugh, I had a strange one for your collection recently...a high feedback buyer with a confirmed address and with all the usual blurb about how I would be covered etc, only in the address section it said ".

The seller sent a seperate email with the address and as I was rushed I never went back and asked her how she had confirmed a 'non'' address.

there was a glitch back a while ago where you could confirm your address, then remove it from paypal,
your account remained confirmed, but your address remained blank, or with odd characters in it

can't for the life of me remember where I saw that one though

I wouldnt worry too much, it may be an works address etc, or they have used paypal without joining. Ive sold probably 300+ things on ebay now and not one chargeback...yet.

yes, but it also may not be, and £100 isn't exactly pocket money :-(

again, noggin must be used here, if the buyer is a noob with little feedback, refuse it

if the buyer is long establised and reasonable feedback (not all for e-books tho) then why not

in truth, most people aren't scammers, but paypal does make it easer for the ones that are
