Halifax: crafty !!!!!!!s!?

About three and a half years ago the Halifax closed my account and retained my card, verbally quoting my account as defaulted/delinquent. However, I have just discovered they are still marking my credit file every month as a "3 - over three months late" not just once marking it "8-defaulted" which I understand would last 6 years. The way it stands it will last forever, unless I win the lottery (which I don't enter), eternally ruining my credit. I was and still am suffering severe financial hardship. All the other institutions with whom I defaulted have marked my credit file once with an "8" therefore giving this sorry saga a definite end, 6 years from then? It appears as if the Halifax maliciously think I should suffer forever. Please help!!! Any advice greatly appreciated.

Are you making payments towards this debt?
Have you ever received a default notice? If not, you may be able to contact them and request a copy of the default notice for your records. Is the account marked as closed?
A default will fall off your credit file after 6 years. This is why you should always make sure that the default date on your credit file is actually the date of the first missed payment and not the date it was passed to a DCA or the date the default was listed. A closed account will also fall off your credit file after 6 years. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
