My boss is telling me I won't get my money owed until end of Dec!!

Hi just looking for some much needed advice. I had been working for 5months without once getting my proper pay and always being told it will get corrected next month - which never happened!

Now on Friday I recieved my pay advice sheet which showed me once again my wages were short a big chunck! This was the last straw for me so I quit!!

I have been chasing my boss since then to try and get my wages fixed, phoning her every hour!!! She finally phoned me back today telling me that under no circumstances will I get my wage thats owed to me this month and that I will have to wait till 31st Dec!!!! I am completely outraged by this as I will only be getting paid £100 pounds because of them and I have mortage to pay and house to run!! How is anyone meant to do that??

Can someone please give me some advice.....is there anything I can do?
I have spoke to my boss and pay roll who are all telling me the same

Thanks in advance

You don't work for a well known high street opticians do you?

They did this to me coming up to December a number of years ago. Underpaid me for several months until I had to quit. They were no help and just gave me the run around something awful.

After I left they kept sending me final settlement cheques, then ringing me to tell me they had cancelled them as the settlement was incorrect. March the following year I finally banked the payment.

Two years on got a letter saying they had over paid me and i was to return £500 as it related to a uniform allowance and i had not returned the uniform. I called them back to advise I was never provided an allowance or uniform. Letters flew back and forth where they were asking for more and more money back, wildly different sums in one case twice the amount they paid me.

So now when they write every year demanding the money and I whole heartily agree settle the O/S amount... I get a delighted letter back requesting full settlement and i send one back stating i will pay at £2.00 per month however they must supply a full written receipt. (This done on the advice of CAB after going to them with the problem)

Every year I get the same letter back exclaiming that acknowledging such a small payment would cancel out the payment its self...

And every year I send one back saying 'not my problem' that is my payment terms and as long as i am making an attempt to pay it back the matter cannot be taken any further... (Lovely lovely lady at the CAB)

'not my problem' Which just happened to be the stock response they kept using when my life was going down the tubes when they couldn’t care less about sorting out my pay.

It gives me a warm feeling inside.....
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...
  • No, it happens to be a very badly publised care company. They are stressing me out to the max at the moment as they are being very very unhelpful.

All I want to know is are they within their rights to do this to me?

Contact ACAS https://www.acas.org.uk - your boss should get your pay right..after the first month then yes she may have made a mistake but she has had plenty of time since then to rectify it.
  • if they refuse to give you the money back then you can take them to the court for unlawful deduction of your wages
