Blockbuster - employee stole from me

I went to Blockbuster yesterday and rented 2 DVDs. my son also bought a PSP game for £35 and some sweets.
there were 2 young girls serving and were chatting amongst themselves whilst doing so.
when getting my DVDs I also noticed they were scanning bags of popcorn and pop, but didnt think this related to my purchase at the time.
one of the girls gave me a bag with the items and I then asked for a receipt for the PSP game.
she didnt seem very happy but printed a receipt and put it in the bag.
again i didnt think anything of it.
when i got home i checked the receipt and sure enough, it showed that i had bought 2 bags of popcorn and a bottle of sprite.
there was then a discount on the receipt.
I did notice a sign advertising a promotion of 2 DVD rentals, 2 bags of popcorn and bottle pop for £9. But I wasnt interested as none of us wanted popcorn.
but i have been overcharged by £2.00 as the DVDs are only showing as £3.50 each?
i feel sick that some young kid can try and steal from me.
where do i stand with this?
i see it as she has either taken my money dishonestly to purchase goods for herself?
or - she has stolen my popcorn and pop? (even though i never asked for them)
i am going to call and see the manager today but really need to know where i stand first.
do i have to just let them deal with it internally?

I would speak to the manager and see what he has to say - there may be CCTV that he can look at to back your story up. Think in the end you should get the difference refunded and the rest should then be dealth with internally!Weight Loss - 102lb0

Did you actually pay an extra £2 or was that what it said on the receipt?
The only reason I am asking is because my mate, who works for BB and he tells me that a lot of them do this, but make the difference up themselves.0 -
I think you should go to the shop with your receipt and explain the situation to the manager (maybe ring in advance -to speak to the manager only, of course - to let them know you mean business).
I can see the temptation, but the staff are STEALING - whether from you or from the store itself, and they need to be held accountable for their behaviour.
Hope it all gets sorted out for you!

Speak to the manager and explain the situation. I would give the benefit of the doubt, there may be an honest mistake / explaination for what has happened.
If the manager can't resolve it to what you expect, write to the Blockbuster headquaters."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Is it possible that they assumed you wanted the popcorn and sprite (because the majority of customers take it) and it got into another bag but because you did not expect to receive it you didn't lift the other bag. From the girls point of view someone simply forgot to lift their purchases and it may be behind the counter?
I don't think it is fair to accuse the girls of theft until all the facts are known .. maybe they just were not paying enough attention. At worst it seems to be a simple misunderstanding .. go back into the shop and I am sure they will refund you the difference.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
in our blockbusters the pop corn and pop are not behind the counter. also i would of thought the cashiers would have been polite enough to ask the lady if she would like the offer they do that in our blockbusters.
yes i would ask about it. what i always do is ask for a receipt and before i exit a shop i always check the receipt.
see you from kerry.0 -
Sounds like perhaps they may have had the popcorn and sprite themselves at your expense. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Or perhaps they were just incompetant and it was an honest mistake,as ivan said.0

in my local blockbuster, they ask you if you want the popcorn/drink deal, and then just tell you to take the stuff off a stand as you walk out the door, as it saves people having to go back into the shop bit and find the things they want, and hold up the queue in the process
perhaps they do this in every store, and thought you knew to pick up the food/drink on your way out?

They might also have sales targets to make with special offers but that does not excuse them given you a receipt with items you did not pay for on it. I'd suggest a call to the manager/head office first.
They might have even been told to do this by the manager. I was in KFC once and the manager let me off a £1 because he wanted as many people as possible to buy the £9.99 special offer.0
