Lloyds TSB Duo Credit Card PIN Problem ?

Hi,
My wife has applied and been accepted for a Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo Credit card, and has today received her PINS for both cards.

On the First PIN letter for I think the AMEX card it states..........

"Your PIN is at the bottom of this letter. You will need it to withdraw cash from ATM's, but you'll be asked to sign for your purchases rather than entering your PIN."

She is confused as surely you don't sign for anything anymore as that is the whole point of chip & pin, and what happens for example at pay@pump can she not use that.

The wording does not appear on the other letter which I think is the Mastercard.
