in Credit cards
I hope someone can help with me with a query about the American Express Platinum card.
I applied for this card a little while ago after reading about it on MSE. It was flagged as being the top cashback credit card and recommended by Martin. Since then I have made several large purchases using it and will make more with Christmas purchases and naturally assumed that I had extra security under Section 75 of CCA 1974.
However, I was talking about the extra security under Section 75 with a friend of mine and he said "of course debit card purchases are not covered" (which I already knew) "and neither are purchases made with American Express cards" !! Is this true does anyone know? My friend is pretty knowledgable about financial matters but I can't believe that the card would have been flagged as a Best Buy on this site without pointing out this obvious disadvantage.

I am pretty sure your friend meant charge cards and not credit cards.
CCA 75 is a statutory requirement for credit cards and not optional .
Amex have long been assocaited with charge cards so this is probably what he meant.0 -
Thank you lisy that could well be what he meant. I couldn't see why Amex credit cards should be excluded from the Act but I panicked, I'm a bit of a worrier

Not about methods of payments it would appear. My friend is pretty knowledgable about financial mattersConjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
Well we don't know those were his exact words do we?
I doubt they were an exact transcript.
I suspect he knew what he meant and either he failed to express it properly or perhaps the OP did not hear or reproduce it exactly.
These kind of things happen all the time.0
