Egg rip off

I went to St Marteen last week on a cruise, I went into a jewelry shop and spotted some hello Kitty bits for my 12 year old, 1 was a watch with a pink strap and another a bracelet. The lady advised that the two together would be Twenty four sixty, which I thought was about right. When she put my egg through the receipt said $2460.00 I nearly died, as this was not chip and pin it had automatically gone through, she refunded the amount within 60 seconds and I did not purchase anything from her and was upset at the incident. On getting back on the ship that day I immediately emailed Egg to let them know what happened and ask them to keep an eye on any unusual activity as i noticed my card number was on the receipts - Both the transaction and the refund have come through but I have been charged £100.00. Egg advised that this is due to the buy back rate of the dollar and a 2.75% charge. As this was not my error and I do not have any goods can they do this ? I have been a customer of theirs for years and although I will be disputing the amount I will not use them again.
