in Credit cards
was not set up for some reason which means that think i defaulted (i did write to them but not had chance to get back to them on why it was never implemented as yet). this has been set up but after a couple of times of the minimum not being paid . i imagine this will be an issue now on my credit rating. apart from writing to tesco to deal with this again is there any action i can take in the meantime. also i would like to buy a printer on 6 months interest free payment and worried that i could be turned down. thanks everso for any input.

your post is a little unclear
are you saying that your Tesco CC statement showed that the DD was set up but they didn't take it?
if you are then you do indeed have grounds for complaint
if howeveer it didn't why didn't you pay by alternate means
presumably you have internet access to the account.0 -
You'd be amazed at the number of people who have internet access but flatly refuse to use it to make a payment online.
Takes a few minutes to do and would stop any issues but for a lot of people it's too easy and they would rather launch an attack on the lender for being unreasonable.0 -
to them! just now need to know how affect if need to get something for my credit rating. i dont think it is right to defend the bank and imagine the worse from people like me!You'd be amazed at the number of people who have internet access but flatly refuse to use it to make a payment online.

who writes letters to request direct debits? you can set it up online on the tesco cc website or over the phone! :rolleyes:I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
"Think"! Why not check your credit reports and KNOW? That said, if your manual payment reached them before the next statement date there's a chance the late payment won't be reported....think i defaulted
May I ask why? It's only a phone call isn't it?(i did write to them but not had chance to get back to them on why it was never implemented as yet).
A letter from you isn't setting it up. They need either a signature on a DD mandate or a recorded telephone call to set one up.this has been set up
Twice! You're not really helping yourself here are you? You haven't answered CLAPTON's question, namely did the statements (2 of them) say the payment would be collected by DD?but after a couple of times of the minimum not being paid .
"Imagine" (and "think" from your OP) are not words to be used when dealing with credit. You should order your credit reports and ascertain/confirm the extent of the damage.i imagine this will be an issue now on my credit rating.
Until your statement says the payment will be collected by DD you should pay by other means (several available, as given on the reverse of your statement).apart from writing to tesco to deal with this again is there any action i can take in the meantime.
I'd be more worried about having to pay circa 29.9% APR deferred interest (if it's a BNPL purchase), once you miss a payment on that.also i would like to buy a printer on 6 months interest free payment and worried that i could be turned down.0 -

Sorry, but the credit cards (the ones I have anyway) always say to continue paying by other means until your statement shows the direct debit is in place.
I'm not surprised they didn't set up a direct debit if you requested it in a letter. Generally they would expect a direct debit mandate to be filled out and sent back, either by post or online, maybe even by phone.
Sending a letter would likely result in them doing nothing at all or sending out a form.0 -

Deals, why is that you've posted this requesting help when you posted something near enough exactly the same a few weeks back (can't remember the exact post).
You were then advised as to how it works and also were advised that requesting to set up a DD by letter was NOT the way to do it and that you should do it online or via phone. Any reason why you chose to ignore that ? Is there any point in anyone trying to advise/help you if you are not going to listen ?0 -
The best way to protect your credit history from further damage is to make a payment to Tesco. I'd make this your No.1 priority.I imagine this will be an issue now on my credit rating. Apart from writing to Tesco to deal with this again, is there any action I can take in the meantime?
To register your cc online, go to https://www.tesco.com/finance and click on *My Accounts*
If you would prefer not to pay online via the Tesco website, then ring Customer Services. Tesco accepts debit card payments over the phone. (Btw, if you ring Tesco Finance on 0800 505 555, you'll avoid the perishing 0870/0845 numbers
)
To enquire about your direct debit, telephone the Customer Services Team on 0845 300 4277 or set it up online via the Tesco website.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

You have my sympathy, since I found myself in an identical situation over a year ago... During application they ask for DD information, but they did not set up the DD. Likewise, they ask for a ClubCard, but didn't associate that with the credit card. I missed my first payment this way - I then set up a DD and insisted on paper statements so that I didn't forget to pay (it's easily done if you're not vigilant).
As other people have said on here, clear your minimum payments ASAP and make sure you either set up a DD *or* religiously pay each month on time.
Even if you overpay by just a small amount (say a fiver) each month, once you've sorted this initial hiccup out, you should be able to rescue your credit rating/relationship with Tesco.0
