What do you do when something sells for over £39 and you stated standard delivery?

my post office always refuse to give me a cop and just give me a till receipt then handwrite the postcode on the bottom, they insist this is sufficient enough for a claim, is this correct?Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

Use special delivery and pay for it yourself - it is for your own protection. It will cost you an extra £3ish, the item has clearly sold for more than £3 over what you were expecting, so you're not losing out, are you?:www: :: MFi3 ::

When I've done auctions, I've always listed both standard and special delivery prices as an option for the buyer.
In rare cases where the item has sold for more than I thought it would, and the buyer has paid for normal delivery, I've contacted them and asked if they would maybe prefer to pay the extra and get it sent special delivery.
I've even had buyers ask if they can arrange and pay for the item to be delivered themselves.0 -

Why would any buyer willingly want to pay more to protect the seller though
Tracking only protects a seller, so if any seller asked me to pay extra for it I would strongly object, as a buyer I'm covered anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. We write out our own COP and had it to them. Some will chuck it in the bin and do their own. Some will be thankful they don't have to do their own. One guy chucked it in the bin and then wrote his own out on the COP form???
Personally I send anything over £10 by recorded because they never seem to go missing when recorded for me. I know you can claim up to £39 but you do have some dishonest buyers who claim its not arrived when it probably has. Correctly addressed mail rarely goes missing.0 -
Thanks for your opinions.
I found it hard to predict a few times how much would an item go for(some vintage clothes), can be £30, can be £50. I'd still send £50 worth recorded delivery probabaly not special.
And regarding recorded I upgrade sometimes myself when dealing with awkward buyers that I feel may be dishonest and claim non receipt. I feel that in some instances 75p extra may save a lot of hassle of trying to claim for something "lost".
One time I had to claim for a lost parcel though, was sent recorded and tracking number showed "not delivered" but still didn't get any compensation from the PO. I really wonder how do people manage to claim successfully for items that were just sent 1st class.
Luckily parcels don't get lost(literally lost) often touch wood.0 -

The only time I have been refused compensation is where I have used recorded, I never have problems on the admittedly few claims I put in nowadays.
It doesn't matter what standard delivery method you use, 1st 2nd or recorded the claim system is the same and sometimes the buyer is asked to confirm whether item was receive dor not but mor eoften they are not. Recorded though sometimes shows as delivered by RM but not online so RM won't pay out but seller will lose a paypal chargeback.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Really? Why was that if I may ask?The only time I have been refused compensation is where I have used recorded.
Mine was showing as undelivered online and buyer said they didn't receive it, but I didn't get compensation because I couldn't provide any sort of proof of value except ebay listing print(even though specifically remember PO assistant asking what was the value when sending it, I said £25 ( that was how much it sold for)0 -

The first time I had to send a book to a major UK university established around 400 years ago. I sent it to the address on paypal and it was accepted by the RM but never delivered. My claim was refused because they said the post code was incorrect. I asked the librarian at the uni and she said they had ongoing issues with RM over the post code but the one i used was the one on all their headed paper, whereas RM claimed they were on a different road elsewhere in the city and with a different Postcode. I took advice on that one and was told that RM had to be correct, even if it meant packages not being able to be delivered.
The second one was a wedding stole, it went to a private buyer and she was carded but when she went to collect it they claiemd it was lost. She admits that she lost her temper and may have got cross before breaking down in tears , she then wrote a very stroppy letter to the sorting office basically accusing them of theft and when I went to claim they quoted regulations at me basically saying that PO staff are not open to abuse and they declined to make any effort to find my item or to compensate me as they were at liberty not to have any more dealings with that member of the public.
Another time RM told me that buyer had not confimred that item was lost, and strangely enough to my knowledge that is the only time any of my buyers have ever been asked to confirm lack of delivery.
