hi everyone 1ST post here
today i received a letter from 1ST credit(have already read about their reputation) claiming that i owe them £2300 on behalf of their client united utilities water
the trouble is that its relating to an address that i haven't lived at for over 8 years and as far as i am concerned i owe them nothing. for the last 8 years Ive been paying united utilities water bills where i now live and am not behind in any way and have never heard anything from them regarding owing them any money from an address i havent lived at for 8 years
should i ignore the letter?
or should i go down the route of a statute barred letter that i have been reading about on other posts.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Up to you really.

If it was we then I would send a hybrid "I do not recognise this debt" and "would be statue barred anyway" letter.
Always difficult to say whether to respond in these cases. :undecidedFree/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

hi all just an update and more advice needed please
i sent first credit a statute barred /i do not recognize this debt letter in December and received a letter back stating they would investigate the matter and would be in touch soon.
5 months later Ive never heard from them no proof that i owe them anything i presumed they accepted i was in the right
on Friday Ive now received a letter from moor croft which is a carbon copy of the first from 1ST credit and the cycle is starting again.
have 1 ST credit realized they wont get any money from me and have sold the alleged debt to Moorcroft?
should i now start the statute barred / i do not recognize this debt letter process again with moor croft
any help would be appreciated0 -
Send Moorcroft the 1st statute barred letter, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11571227&postcount=3 but tag in that this debt has already been confirmed as statute barred by 1st Credit somewhere near the top.
I would then probably send 1st credit the 2nd statute barred letter http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11571227&postcount=3 (bottom of post) to make them better understand statute barred doesn't mean go and sell on the debt. Potentially raise it with the OFT/FOS that 1st credit sold on a debt they already knew was statute barred.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
