money in my jar

I have a spare change jar which is huge. I has taken me 2 years to fill and I've just spend 3 hours on the floor counted it all.
I has £294 in it so worth it.
Now what do I do with it...
How do I get it into my savings account?
I've heard banks won't take it any more and those machines at tescos charge a lot.
Thanks :D

Banks will take it provided you fill those see-thru cash bags up with the correct coins (which are printed on them) ie £20 in 20p's etc.
Those cash counting machines are evil and charge 9%
HSBC love it when i give them bags of change but i know halifax limits you to deposit a max 5 bags of change a day. (didnt realise this and they let me do 25 bags in2 boyfs acct first time).
i would go in2 ur bank and ask, then ask for sum of those change bags.
    Congrats on your savings OP!

    Well done on your efforts!

I count and bag mine up, in the proper bank change bags which i just go to the bank and ask for, and i then take it to my local shop, who exchange it for notes.

They're grateful as they don't have to pay the bank to get change and i'm grateful as i don't have to bother with the hassle of trying to pay in lots of change into my bank.

have you got a natwest account by any chance as their main branches are starting to install new deposit machines which also take coins (a bit like the ones at the supermarket) as you need either a bank card or paying in slip for one of their accounts to do it, and the machine counts it for you and pays into the account. i did it today took a couple of minutes and no counting/bagging or sorting the coins as the machine does it for you

hsbc are also installing similar machines in some of their branches as well.
