Charity experience is not required but you must have the passion, drive and commitment to make a difference to your chosen charity. You could work with people or animals or maybe with charities that help the environment - whatever charity you choose will aim to make the most of your existing interests and experience. Vodafone Foundation will pay for 500 people to join a charity of their choice for at least 30 hours per week for a period of two months, starting in January 2010. Successful applicants may be required to provide and possibly pay for a standard or enhanced disclosure.

Looks quite a nice job considering you can work for your chosen charity?
AM I missing something I wonder?

I bet it turns out to be those street canvassers that stop people and try to get them to sign up to help a charity on a DD. Or door knockers that do the same job.

You just get to pick which charity you're cornering people for.

Edit: I tracked down the advert http://worldofdifference.vodafone.co.uk/aboutWOD.html so maybe I was wrong, but it's not big on details is it.

This bit in the application will make it hard for some people I think

Be available for an induction day in London on either 11 January 2010 (for placements beginning 12 January 2010) or 12 April 2010 (for placements beginning 13 April 2010).

Damn...I'll try and find out if that's required or there are other ways.

  • The good news is that it appears to be genuine, and does not involve door to door or street fundraising,

The bad news is that there are probably only a few places.

They have done this before, as in these articles:

I did some enquiring this morning, on the site it says must be available for induction in London in January which I thought was a big ask for most people....unless of course the jobcentre paid for that trip to an interview ...which I have just been and asked them and they WILL.

Do if anyone fancies this, go and ask about it AT the jobcentre as it's on their system now and they will help you have a day out in the smoke. :p

    1) I would be very surprised if the Job centre pay expenses for a 2 month position. Especially to London.

    2) It says you get the balance of £2500 after Tax, NI and no doubt expenses. Now Tax and NI is basically 35% straight off so you would receive at most £812.50 per month. Now add in travel costs etc and you wont be getting very much especially given the location of the interviews means it wont appeal to most.

    3) To expect charities to find paid work at 2 months notice is a lot. Especially given all the no doubt terms etc

Tbh I am sure its a genuine ad but I wouldnt waste your time.
