My job has changed :(

15 months ago I started my dream job - PA to the Director of his own small company which is 1/2 showbiz/events/agency and 1/2 creative/sporting workshops for young people.

We worked brilliantly as a team, I got a 12 1/2% pay rise at my first review and the first year was great (once we'd got a few things sorted out like working the odd 30 min O/T at short notice and phone calls/text messages out of working hours.) My boss even suggested that I could take on an 'account manager' type role.

I dealt with just about everything after we'd received a signed booking form - client queries, sometimes even follow on bookings, accounts etc.

Now a third member of staff has been taken on, to expand the workshops side of things. My boss has become more self sufficient with his side of the business and the new member of staff deals with his workshops totally himself until after the workshop has taken place - then I deal with any payment queries/credit control (which is minimal).

Basically I've gone from being a PA to being a glorified receptionist and accounts clerk :(

I know I should be speaking to my boss, but I just wanted to get other's thoughts - am I being reasonable? Oh, and I know I'm lucky to have a job in the first place, so no comments like that please.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

When is your next review? That would be the best time to bring this up. For whatever reason, be it he didn't think you had the necessary skills or maybe you are too good to lose from the admin side of things he didn't promote you. Ask him for constructive feedback so it doesn't happen again.

Otherwise, be proactive. Unfortunately, someone has to do the drudgery but that doesn't mean you can't power through it and ask for more challenging work or even take the iniative.

It took me 4 years to move from a Junior to a Manager so hang in there. :)

Virtually the exact same thing happened to me. I started off doing just about everything - the company grew and along with it parts of my duties were given out to new employees. I ended up stuck on reception.

I urge you to talk to your boss. Lay everything down on the line. I stupidly agreed to the reception work because I was told it was to be an 'executive' reception. That turned out not to be the case and they didn't understand that to all intents and purposes it looked like I'd been demoted. I guess cos they were still paying me the same they just couldn't see my problem. It was like my usefulness was now over, and I was swept to the side to make way for the new flavours of the month (in employee terms).

So talk, talk, talk. I don't know if I would ever have got things to my satisfaction as with a PA type position the job description is basically 'anything we ask you to do'.

We've had a chat. Funnily enough, when I came in this morning, there were several emails from him asking me to do some of the more mundane tasks for his part of the business. He knows me quite well, so this may not have been a co incidence....

He has said he will speak to the other employee with regards to the point at which I take over customer contact.
