When to sign on?

I'm not sure whether this is better posted here or on the benefits board

I've been working on a temporary assignment since August in a role I have really enjoyed and gained so much from. The role was to cover someone who was on long term sick however that person has now returned (although my supervisor doesn't think this person will stay)

The intention was for me to move onto another desk for a further two weeks, however after trialling this out it proved to be impractical as the desk was not really fit for purpose. After a meeting today it was mutually decided it would be more suitable for me to finish working with them earlier than anticipated, they have agreed to pay me for a full weeks work as they weren't really able to give me notice.

I am due to be paid this Friday for last weeks work and then Friday 30th for this week. My question is do I wait until after I've received these two lots of pay to sign on for JSA or can I do it immediately?

I have the potential of another short term assignment coming up so hopefully won't have to sign on and also the place I've been temping has taken every single contact detail for me as possible.

Hi Bunnie, I would sign on as soon as possible. But phone JobCentre Plus and they will give you an appointment to see an advisor who will take you through the process. Don't do it on line as this takes ages.

My period of unemployment has only lasted a day so no need to sign on now, have had a call this morning and start a new job tomorrow
