my husband has just started a new job and there is a possibility of a company car next year
only trouble is I have no idea how much worse off we'll be per month if he decided to take it
we're pretty much breaking even at the moment and I would like to have a rough idea to give me something to work on
any ideas anyone ???

It all depends on the list price of the car. Generally tax is payable on 33% of the lsit price at your highest rate of tax. So if he has a car list price £20k, the tax will be £1320pa. He will need to compare this with the actual cost of running his own vehicle, so he will not necessarily be worse off. If the company provides fuel for private use however he could be worse off as he would pay tax depending on the engine size, even if they provide only one litre of fuel.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

It all depends on LIST price AND CO2 of a car...
So it pretty much depends WHAT car are we talking about...
Ford Focus for basic tax rate payer could be as little as £50 per month (and employer should pay insurance and services!! if it is a company car as such) while Jaguar Xtype as much as nearly £200 a month...
Have a look here...

It is a calculator and it let's you pick any car so if your hubby has any idea about what car are we talking about you can have a look what kind of money we are talking about.. (maybe he knows what type of car are his future colleagues driving? Maybe he saw some at the car park when he went for interview?)0
