after some advice on home insurance for my house i am going to rent out.

Hi all.
Haven't been onto this site in a year or more but was hoping for some advice. :D

The house i am buying completes tomorrow, and i intend to rent it out. I have a tenant already lined up....well have a list actually :p

I was wondering could anyone offer the best advice on which company to use for home insurance.
By the looks of it i need business insurance. Someone once said some are a bit funny insuring people the home when tenants are on benefits (not sure of they are yet) also the house is in a bit of a state atm and was wondering will this effect the insurance- as the house could be empty while we renovate.

Any other advice apprecaited too, haven't done this in a while.

PS- should get the house tomorrow, so should i start insurance tonight, as you can't start it ahead of time and don't want it stood there left insured...lol..

Quidco - a bonus :)

thnkas.

  • my mother passed away a few weeks ago and I had to cancel all her direct debts, which included her £19 per month building and contents insurance. So I contacted them to inform about her death and to ensure that the house was fully insured (there is no mortgage on the property) they happily quoted for the new quote because its empty and it was £24 per month with no contents insurance after 3 months and stipulations that the gas and electric is switched off and the CH is drained and the water turned off. Whilst I was in shock I asked about insurance if I was to rent out the property and they stated a landlords policy would be required, this was with Lloyds.
So I would recommend ringing a few different insurance companies for various quotes that offer you a price you are happy to pay with the required cover.
