Renting - landlord wants list of furniture/appliances

We're just about to move into our first rented property and our landlord has asked us to provide him with a list of all our main furniture and appliances. We haven't got a problem doing this, but we were just wondering what it might be for? We're letting the house un-furnished with the exception of a dishwasher and fitted wardrobes in the main bedroom.

It's not a usual request, and really none of his business.0

I've just given him a quick call to ask and he says it's to do with their buildings insurance, for example if any of our furniture/appliances set their house on fire the insurers need to know it was our property what caused it and not theirs.
I thought it was quite an unusual thing to ask for, especially as we have to insure the contents and not the LL, he's just insuring the building.:j BSC Supporter 290 :jDreading but looking forward to BR date- 27/10/09 @ 9:30am****No. 1 October 2009 Club*****Previously known as *br* on MSE**0 -
