Hi all... My Mother and Stepfather moved to Spain approx 25yrs ago, they do from time to time come over to the UK to visit and usually hire a car. However ive been trying for the last few days to arrange insurance on a spare car we own for my Stepfather to use but all temp car insurers are refusing (either insuring him direct or me insuring the car and adding him on) Due to the fact he's not resident in the UK ! Anyone know a way round this ? PS... he does have a UK driving license.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Would insuring it on an 'any driver' policy cover him?
Might cost a bit though."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

He must have a valid UK address on his UK Licence, why not give the insurers that address.
Of course he should have changed his UK Licence for a Spanish one years ago.0 -
I have not had a problem insuring my mum (who lives in Spain and does have a Spanish driving licence) on one of my cars. Swift refused but I called Elephant and asked if she could be a named driver and they said yes (I checked this more than once with a different person at Elephant just to be sure). Whether I will get the same response should she ever be unfortunate to have an accident in the car who knows, but I have noted time/date/person I spoke to as a precaution.0
