earlier this year we adopted a dog from a rescue centre. for christmas, we want to get the rescue centre a whole load of things in the form of a hamper so that things will be a little easier for them.

what sort of things do you think they would appreciate?

A kong toy would be good so you can stuff biscuits into it, it'l keep him happy ;)

  • A fleecy blanket, squeaky toys, dog biscuits (you can get a recipe online and make them yourself), new bowl, placemat?

  • In a hamper for the rescue centre - I'd put some nice biscuits/chocolates in. How about some snowman soup? Hot chocolate and marshmallow should go down well at that time of year.
I can't really think of anything other than food and drink. If it's a large rescue centre, or has lots of volunteers, then I'd imagine you have to put something together that can be shared by all of them (as opposed to small individual gifts).
some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it :)

I would donate dog food, get a couple of big bags of dry dog food that you can get cheaply, maybe a couple of squeeky toys for under a pound for the dogs to get christmas morning. I always donate dog food, toys and a couple of blankets around christmas, should do it more often really. For the staff you can always get them a nice box of biccies to have with there brew or a big box of choccys

Aye I'd say dog food too as I think they get a lot of toys and things donated. I remember when I was in college we had a bake sale to raise money for local animal shelters, bought loads of blankets and toys and food, took it to one of the big name animal shelters, and they didn't even say thank you  they just told us to put it down in the corner, they were so ungrateful it made me mad. We'd decided to split the stuff up between two shelters, one was the ungrateful one, the other was a little charity run by a nice lady who had built loads of shelters and adopted cats and dogs, she had no help at all, so we took some stuff up there and she was so happy and grateful, you could tell she really appreciated it :) I'd be happy to take some stuff up to an animal shelter at Christmas but I was so put off by the attitude of the staff  I'd definately give it to a little known charity as they probably won't get as many donations
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Yeah, it is for a small hardly known animal rescue centre so we want to help them out as much as possible. They have more than 60 cats at the moment so I guess cat food would certainly help them out. Blankets is a good idea too so thanks for that.

A larger sanctuary that we went to was really ungrateful as well but this little one seems really grateful for anything.
