Christmas Breaks

We [me, wife, adult-kids] want to go away somewhere over the Christmas period. Due to the unfortunate lack of elderly parents, this is the first time we've been able to consider this.
However, not being entirely flush with money, and not having the time to trawl through Google's 200 000 replies, I am appealing to you guys.
We will consider anything, though 3 to 5 nights are probably ideal.
UK or Europe? Either.
Hotel, self-accommodation? Either.
Must have some access to some night-life for the kids.
It must include Christmas Day & Boxing Day.
Probably not a coach tour/trip.
If flying, Leeds/Bradford or Manchester would be best.
Price? Don't really know, but certainly nothing over £2000. Probably £1500 will not be considered. But there again, as we haven't had a proper holiday this year, and the holiday fund is largely intact...
So, the gauntlet is down. I hope the answers will be as good as other advice I've searched for on here.
Thanking you all in advance.

Centre Parcs is open over Christmas. Don't know about night life though.
Haven't been there myself but have decided to book pre-Xmas for next year, as cheaper. I have younger children than you.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
How about Edinburgh? You could get the train to Edinburgh direct from Leeds. It is lovely at Christmas time - they have a german market, a fairground and an ice rink all within Princes Street Gardens. The city is beautiful and this hotel is right on the Royal Mile so within walking distance of the Castle, shops, restaurants, nightlife etc:

They seem to have christmas week deals for less than £70 per night and it is stunning! It would also be a very short taxi ride or a 15/20 minute walk from Waverley train station.
Also check this and other hotels on Expedia - they always have some fantastic prices. I have used them twice before for hotels abroad and have had no problems with them
Hope you find something.

Try a German town as you'd get a lovely Christmas feeling. If you're wanting to avoid that then try somewhere like Cyprus - great at Christmas - and if you're missing the cold you can always go to the mountains2014 will be all about ME!
( well that hasn't happened!!!)
Mortgage free. Will be debt free in Nov 2014. Credit card £2500
