Why say anything?
PA = You.....this means that who your boss hires or fires is of no consequence to you.

I agree that it is bad management and he should not be making decisions based on looks but this really is none of your business.

I would be interested to find out if this is a customer facing role or not.

ETA: I know the OP said it is a telephone based role, but is there likely to be any customer contact at all?

He will soon know if he's picked the right person.
If the new person starts and they are good, then no problem. If they are cr*p then your boss will get what he deserves!

Or maybe he didnt fancy hiring someone who was overqualified for the job who may damage the team ethos.

A PA looking at call centre work will probably have been made redundant and been taking a big cut in wage and authority and your boss knew fine she would be off in no time and possibly upset people by acting better than the others.

A passing comment doesnt mean it was the real reason. Ask and see what he says.

Nothing like passing the buck in recruitment, but the OP could ask her boss what he would say in response to that question?

well make sure you establish that that is the real reason, because a little off comment to a close work colleague might just be that, a little callous remark.

Hi All,

Thanks for your comments your rite not worth saying owt will only get grief, I just get wound up really easy might of over thought this situation a little to much. At the end of the day I just take notes so if anything comes back to haunt us will be on my boss not me and also rite in saying that comment could of ment anything I might be coming to my own conclusions a little to much, I have no actual proof.

But thanks again to you all, posting this made me stop and think rather than going into work on ma high horse and shouting my mouth off and causing more trouble, some things are just better left alone I guess.

Also to Savvy_sue, I don't know if you rember me but I posted on another board a few months ago about a few probs was having with my dad, you and a few others advised I should go back home to my mum... I just wanted to say a huge thaxxxxxx... I took ur advice been back home a month now and couldn't b happier... so thanx you so much..ur help is really appreicated.
