Does Worldwide cover usually mean UK also

Looking to take annual cover for myself and partner - have trips in UK (England), France and Australia over the next 10 months.

I note a lot of companies you can select UK/Europe or Worldwide.

Would like to take out one insurance policy if possible rather that one for UK and then another 'worldwide' to cover France adn Australia - have ready through the entire policy document zzzzz however it doesn't state if Worldwide covers UK or not (UK being home country of course).

Does anyone know?

THanks

  • Boots Travel insurance definately covers you within the UK as long as you take an annual policy - I've just checked out the small print for another forum poster. It what we (myself & the OH) use when we travel.

If you're living together you can get a joint policy as a couple.

I've looked at my policy, and it specifically includes the United Kingdom.

However it goes on to say that only trips having at least 5 nights prepaid accommodation are covered. It also excludes medical cover. There may be other exclusions - I've only skim read it.

So you need to read the small print

The oinc policy covers UK trips providing the accomadation is pre booked and is for three or more consecutive nights.

You can check how each Insurer treats trips to the UK by looking at their policy wording and looking under the "Definition of Words" section and then looking up their definition of a "Trip" which normally confirms it.

P.S The oinc policy has a hefty excess at £120 and this is PER PERSON so if a family of four make a claim for cancellation the excess is £440, they also apply the excess per section of the policy when you claim which is fairly unusual.

You can opt for an excess waiver (Meaning you have no excess"

I'm pretty sure the Direct Travel annual policy covers the UK as long as you book 2 nights away from home. The Nationwide also used to cover for 2 nights, but they changed underwriters about a year ago and that may have changed.

    Thanks -

Dacouch I will check this section again, perhaps I didn't read it properly the first two times, can get a bit much to read! Yes, I had selected excess waiver, it wasn't that much different to the original price! Do you know if the accommodation (which we have pre-booked) is for one hotel or can it be for many? We have booked in for two separate hotels... and it's only for 2 nights so maybe they won't cover anyway....

Luci - thanks I will try Direct Travel also.

Their policy says three consecutive nights so a two night stay would not be covered by oinc, there plenty of companies that civer two consecutive nights, most do not say it has to be at the same hotel, they just specify it must be prebooked (There are a small minority that specify it must be at the same hotel).
