in Water bills
Rateable value stopped in 1990. Why are water companies allowed to charge Consumers on an outdated reference with no right of Appeal.
There are thousands of threads about Water companies and how they are over charging us the consumers.
The law needs to be updated to become fairer and reasonable for everyone.
Water Industry Act 1999 CHAPTER 9
Come on Martin and the team, we need your help, what can we the consumers do to change the law?
Water companies are profiteering from consumers and water companies infrastructure wastes most of the water in comparisson to what a household uses.
I dont mind paying a fair price for what i use.
United we stand.

NoThere currently is a perfectly fair system for assessment of water charges.
Every new property built since 1990 is on that system, it is to be metered. i.e. you pay for what you use.
It is completely another subject if you contend all water charges are too high, and many might agree with those sentiments.
However that is what happens when a Government sells off 'our'(the taxpayers) property and leaves future customers to pay for an antiquated Victorian infrastructure.
The problem is the stupidity of basing charges for a consumable product(water) on the notional Rental value of a property as long ago as 1963; for that is Rateable Value.
The solution is to fit meters to every house and make people pay for what they use.0 -
YesWe are defo saying the same thing cardew, water meters should be installed so everyone pays a fair price for water. Since the water meter has been fitted we have had 2 leaks in less than 3 weeks, total water wasted so far 70400 gallons. Portsmouth water have so far wasted more than i would use in 5 years and its still leaking. I can't believe these water companies hound consumers for over priced unmetered invoices, they then install a water meter and !!!! that up and blow my water pipe and are not in the slightest bit concerned over the qty of water wasted. If i had to pay for the wasted water it would certainly be another matter. The water saga continues, my drive way is now a river and my front garden has disappeared under water! And the water company advertise to say to consumers to save water!0
