Moving In Soon - URGENT Advice Needed

Hi

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciate...thanks for reading

Anyway, I'm a tenant moving into an apartment sometime this week.

Before signing the contract me and the landlord agreed that he would provide me with a microwave and chest of drawers. He also agreed to provide me with curtains (which were broken when the apartment was viewed).

I've already signed the papers and paid the deposit. I've rang the landlord a few times and he said he's put in the microwave and chest of drawers, but is working on the curtains. He's now saying they won't be done when I move in this week, and that's !!!!ed me off a little as I expected it to be done before I moved in.

I want to know what I can/should do in this situation - my first rent is due as soon as I move in (need to pay when I get key).

Can someone give me some quick tips as to how I can insure the curtain work gets done. I'd rather not be troublesome but if my LL will be awkward then I guess there's no choice.

Thanks a lot

well curtains are a pretty minor thing, hes already given you a microwave and chest of drawers which i would say is a result.

I usually get my own curtains really cheap so i can feel a little at home. I then offer them to the LL when my agreement is up or i freecycle them. We're talking literally a few £ vs a good relationship with your LL.

  • Hi,

I would concur with the earlier reply post.

To get stressed over curtains is a waste of your time and effort.

Creating a strained relationship with your new landlord over this would be an error in judgement.

If your really hooked up on this issue then talk to your landlord and suggest buying the curtains yourself ,and deduct the cost from your rent !
  • was he apologetic when he told you they wouldn't be ready? do you have reason to doubt that he will do it? did he say when they would be done?

I dont think lack of curtains is grounds for not paying rent.. its an annoyance but its not that serious. i presume as you say they are 'broken' there are some curtains up at the moment?

i would say at this stage building up a good relationship with your landlord is more important than being difficult over a minor issue. yes, you need to push to get the curtains fixed, but if the landlord has come good on the other items hopefully its just a small hiccup...

    enjoy your new apartment!
