Hi everyone, I hope someone can help
Basically I went to san francisco in june and the service we received was less than acceptable
I wrote to them and complained and they gave my partner and I $300 each in travel vouchers for future travel. We since then decided to go to new york in december.
I called them up and they calcluated the tickets as being £83.80 per person. I agreed to pay this and gave them my card details. I also wrote them a letter including the travel vouchers and stating the amount I expected to be debited from my account
The amount has still not gone from my account so I just called them up chasing this and they said, "Well actually, we forgot to include some airport taxes so the amount will now come to £109.10 per person." She also said someone should have contacted me about this (which they hadn't)
I don't particularly want to pay more than what I had agreed to pay in the first place! Do I have any legs to stand on?
Thanks!

when you first spoke to them I take it you discussed the vouchers. Do you know If the calls are recorded? did they tell you this was a guaranteed price? as tax is subject to change.
Personally I would stick to my guns (though I really do not know the ins and outs of conditions) advise that you agreed to a price over the phone and gave your card details to accept that payment, therefore they are breaking their agreement.
I really hope someone with more experience than me will be along. But personally Im with you. I would be !!!!ed if I agreed to one price and then they tried to pull this fast one.0 -
They didn't say it was a guaranteed price but he took my card details and said as soon as I handed over the travel vouchers, this would be the amount that would be taken from my card.
In my letter, I clearly stated the amount I expected to be deducted from my card and that was the amount I thought I was paying until today when I had to call them up. I think they should have atleast had the decency to call me up and tell me.0 -
have you spoke to a supervisor or a manager, stick to your guns and say thats all your paying0

Argh.. I'm really frustrated now
I just called up american and they said to me actually, the price you agreed to pay was £289 minus the voucher which comes up to £109 per person
And i said well actually the price i agreed to pay was £83.80 per person.
And they will not budge. They are saying we aren't asking you to pay any more than what we asked you to before (Which they obviously are) and they are saying either you pay 109 or we will send you the voucher back.
Is there anything else I can do? can someone help?
Thanks!0 -
Could it possibly have anything to do with the exchange rate on which they are calculating the vouchers worth on having changed?
What I mean is if there was a long delay between you speaking to them on the phone and then calling them up to chase if they exchange rate they use to calculate how much your $300 is worth in £ has gone up then the vouchers would be worth less £ making more for you to pay.
Not sure it would have changed by this amount but a possibility??0 -
It was the taxes that they forgot to add on and unfortunately, we can't get away from them lol!
I have decided to pay the higher amount (Reluctantly) and write a long letter of complaint (again!)
Thank you all for your suggestions! They were much appreciated0 -
I know its very annoying but the flights still end up being very good value and i think id just be grateful its not a larger amount they're asking for, and write that letter of complaint and see what happens.0

Hi everyone, just a quick update on this,
I wrote them a complaint letter and they called me up today saying although they couldnt change the price of the tax, they would lower the price of the ticket so I only have to pay what i agreed to pay in the first place
Thank you all for you help it was really appreciated!0 -
That's a good result.
Enjoy New York!0
