Countdown to Christmas 2009 - 100 days to go - what are you doing?

Hi All
Well according to santaclaus.com there's only 100 days left until Christmas 2009! Scary when you're budgeting for everything!
Well this year is our first year with a kitchen in our new house. Been in the house 2 years on October 1st and had the kitchen installed in July. I love it. Never had a new kitchen before and everything about is fantastic to me. Esp my new cooker!
I have offered to cook Christmas dinner this year now I have the facilities to. My Grandad passed away last year so I have invited my Nana as she is now on her own and my parents as mum always cooks bless her. So there's them 3, plus me, OH and my DD age 2. 5 adults, 1 toddler and 1 very hungry labrador who requests left overs:rotfl:
I can't wait for a very traditional, frugal Christmas. Making he most of what we have, home made crackers, decorations from nature, hand made presents - FAB. I need to get planning on costing the food out - no idea of Christmas menu yet but give me time  I hope to use my clubcard vouchers from November for christmas food.
So now i need to finish my presents list and find the money to buy them:rotfl:and write a card's list out then buy and write asap except loved ones who I like to do in Dec - don't know why!! More Christmassy maybe. Just like I like to wrap the loved ones pressies on Christmas Eve - well maybe just the one main one!
Along side pressy and card list is the need for costing spreadsheet as above and the menu plan. Then we can collect conkers and pine cones to spray. Berries and holly from garden nearer the time. I will do some searchign too for ideas but this is the best place to find them :T
So guys, enough waffling from me - with 100 days to go, what are you doing to prep for Christmas?
OOOH I am going to make my own cake and pud for the first time ever too, and mincemeat - how excting. Just need the recipe!!!! LOL. Looking forward to your Christmas preps

One more thing - has anyone got a newbie jam recipe for plums? I have no idea what testing for pecting, rolling boil or testing for set is and that's what my recipe says?
Thanks

Hi Mrs_Tradition,
These threads might help with the jam:

As we now have the Special Occasions (including Christmas) board, board guides have been asked to move Christmas threads over there. If you have a look on that board there are a number of threads with lots of tips on getting organised for Christmas that might help.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I am starting my crafts, or have them lined up, as knowing my crafting speed they'll take forever. I'm making 3 main gifts for my boyfriend, along with one or two smaller ones, to go with the things I buy.
Keeping an eye out online for any good offers or sales and buying some things now so I don't find out I'm skint in december and have to skimp on anyone. Also making some decorations for myself, and thinking about the possibility of doing a craft fair stall. We'll be going to my mam's again this year so don't have to worry about cooking dinner or anything thankfullyD'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -
I am hoping to bake Christmas cakes soon and also make flavoured vodka; raspberry, mint and aniseed I think. I want to give my sister and my ExOH mum and dad a little homemade hamper including mini mince pies, cookies, mulled wine kit, mini Christmas cake etc
I'm on the look out for big tins of sweets (think I read co-op doing BOGOF £8 next week!) will buy two, open and take out all the gold sweets (I hate them because they are all fudge and toffee) for pots of gold and keep all the strawberry cream/nice ones for me yay!!!
Have looked up 24 weird facts on the internet and am planning to wrap around funsize bars of chocolate and number to make an advent calendar for DS. Bought a felt one with pockets for DD, but REALLY fancy trying to make a matchbox one too - maybe it can be mine Lol!
Want to craft - tree decorations from felt, hope to knit and crochet some too but that's not going well at all, don't seem to be picking it up. Make a Christmas book to record all our memories and store photographs. Make cat toys. Make post it note holders. Decorate glasses and mugs.
Want to try and design funky labels for my homemade stuff and ask my friend to print them out at work for me.
So still a fair bit to be getting on with actually, bit daunting when you read it all back but hey ho will get there in the end I'm sure.:rudolf: Christmas Addict! :rudolf:0 -
100 days whoo hoo. I love crimbo :j
I still have a fair bit to do to be honest but now i am following the santas challenge thread on here at least i am organised and got it all planned out.
I hope to have all pressies brought or made by 31st Nov so i can concentrate on fun with my children the whole of Dec especially when our crimbo Elf arrives!Member of Thrifty Gifty ~ Making money for Christmas 2010:£2 Savers club member no 40 ~ £54Amazon Vouchers BingoPort ~ £10Dooyoo Challenge Jan ~ £24.07 / £20.00 Yippee over target :j0 -
....... nothing
Actually, since my gift shopping is finished, my charming husband gave me the task of shopping for him too, so I have a present for my mother to buy (from him - I'm going to take a walk later and look for glittery garden gnomes) and then gifts for his siblings' kids - two boys around 8 or so, and a newborn baby girl (maybe 6 weeks by Christmas). I'm going to fill a shoebox full of German sweets for the boys to go with the bits of stuff we already have.
I'm going to write the Christmas cards in a couple of weeks, and then that's it till the middle of December, when I'll buy the fresh stuff that's not available in the UK to bring to my parents' house, pack for a week in England and we'll fly over laden with gifts and lebkuchen.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

i cant think of anything else yet0 -
I love Christmas!!!!
I'm planning on making a few bits of jewellery for my sis and 2 sis inlaws for presents (and maybe my mum as well!) but need to think about what I'm going to make and see what I need to buy.
Going to make up pots of gold for the guys so will need o get started on that fairly soon.
Have to wait until my christmas vouchers are paid off before I can buy the presents for everyone else (should get them in Nov)
On the lookout for an elf to come and live with us but can't find any in the UK
Bought a book of things to make and do for the kids so nearer the time we'll get cracking with cards and decorations. Going to do some salt dough decs with them too.
Not sure what we're doing about Christmas dinner yet as I don't know if I'll be working Christmas day yet or not
Bluestarrz - Sainsbury's are doing big tubs of Celebrations for £5 this week (usually £10)
I think that's about it for now!0 -
