Hi everyone.
Just basically need some help.
I started a paid work placement back in february 2009 and I know my tax free allowance is £6,475. However, I have been charged tax ever since I started.
How do I claim this tax back?
And probably I can only do it for the period of Feb-April 2009 at the moment , am I right?
Many thanks.

Yes probably only Feb-April.
Just write to your tax office stating what you earned last tax year, and say that that was all you earned so can you claim back any tax. If you ring your tax office they will tell you exactly how to word the letter, and where to send it. You'll have to send in your P60 as well iirc.
Did you do any other work last tax year? Remember to take that into account too.0 -
If you're still working there, did you ever give in a P46? If you didn't, I think it would still be worth asking your employer for one now, or downloading one from the HMRC website. That form gives the person in payroll the information they need to work out which tax code to use for you.
Which tax code are you on, out of interest?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Nope, that was the only job during the last tax year.
Many thanks for your reply0
