Hi All
As you all were fab last time, I thought I would try again, as I am a little stuck!
Mum is popping into Nepal before heading back to China, and she is visiting Everest's base camp, which is 3,700m above sea level.
Does anyone have any suggestions of which insurance comapanies, cover places so high?
Thanks
Marie

Is she already overseas? I'm not sure if UK companies will cover someone who is already abroad but I could be wrong.0

She is in the UK at the moment, and flies next week0

Does the trip just involve walking or will they be using ropes?0

Hi I believe it will mainly be hiking, but as she's such a small lass, I think they may use the rope-pully system to pull her up at times :P

The ropes have a major effect on the price0

Well lets base it on no ropes, as I believe donkeys will be carrying the gear for the group.0

I generally use PJ Haymen for my clients in these situations.
Insurance companies normally refer to what she is doing as "Trekking"
Trekking does not allow the use of ropes, when ropes are used its normally defines as mountaineering.
It would be worth looking for an Insurer who includes Search and Rescue just in case anything goes wrong as most standard policies do not include these costs.
Here is a link to the PJ Haymen adventures policy scheme information
Trekking with them is class II which costs £55.90 for cover part A plus £24 for cover part B.
There are other companies that will offer cover and some may offer trekking as part of a standard policy but make sure you read any terms and conditions so you are certain its covered and like I said Search and Rescue is not covered by all policies.
There is quite a cheap policy from one of the Mountaineering Associations that MSE members have posted info on before but I cannot find it.
I hope this helps.
Make sure your mum declares all existing medical conditions including bllod pressue tablets etc

Thanks everyone. She has decided to go with Columbus, as it coveres helicopters, and high altitude hiking.
