Paypal payments after verification?

I have now been "Verified" by Paypal and in doing so they have setup a Direct Debit from my bank account. I was going to remove my bank details from Paypal and just pay by card but a notice came up saying I would be unable to withdraw funds to my bank account if I removed these details.
Would cancelling the Direct Debit, but leaving my bank details on Paypal, make any difference to me withdrawing funds from my PP account?
Also, should I remove my card details, that they have stored in my account, for extra security?
