Hi,
I will keep this as brief as possible.
In March I was made redundant from my role as a quantity surveyor. Since then mainly due to being unable to drive until at least February 2010 due to medical reasons I have been unable to find a new job. Instead of sitting around I have decided to return to education and go to university and get a BSc in Quantity Surveying. However because I am a mature student at the age of 30 I have no idea how I am going to be able to fund this. On top of all the usual education and travel costs I have all the other day to day bills such as a mortgage, household bills, council tax, food and living cost.
Does anybody have any advice on how someone in my position can get help?
Thanks.
S18C.

Have you been to university before? Or started a degree or anything?0

I take it you have a first degree already otherwise you would not be worrying about funding your proposed degree...
Regarding household expenses, bar any student finance you may (or not ) receive, savings and p/t work is the way to go.
Any other help would most likely come from the Uni's access fund.DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
Assuming you do not have children, you will qualify for the same assistance as any other student. If you Google Student Finance this will link you to a calculator which will tell you your entitlement.
You mention that you cannot drive due to medical reasons - are you in reason of any disability benefits?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I was a mature student, I studied at university and also worked. It's how most people get by. You might also be able to get a student loan to cover your tuition fees.
How did you plan on supporting yourself before you took the decision to go back to studying?0
