I'm currently applying for a mortgage with Abbey and Yorkshire Building Society. Just remembered this morning that I hadn't paid my Virgin credit card this month. It was due on the 2nd September. I have paid it, but how much damage will this do to my applications. I haven't missed a payment or been late for years, just forgot what with the bank holiday and lots of work on at the moment. I'm such an idiot!

Ok. This will be difficult to predict. If you have missed a payment, it usually takes a month or so to be registered on the credit report. Don't worry. If it does'nt pass, it will go to the credit officer who will then make a decision on this.
PS. You can only wait and see. In life only two answers can be achieved. Yes or No.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Set up a direct debit for the minimum payment so it never happens again.
You could try and grovel with the credit card people they sometimes will waive it if you are very polite....0 -

When we remortgaged we were asked for an explanation of all missed payments - a few years ago Mrs. B-B was sent abroad for work and did the same as you did - then did again 4 months later- we explained every instance and knew the dates etc and it was a very good deal so we were concerned as it had already been pulled that any excuse were do - we were told that the honesty and knowledge of our financial affairs had helped.

Thanks everyone, I'm so angry with myself, I'm usually so on top of all this stuff. What with a bank holiday weekend, extra work on and all this moving stress, I completely lost track of time. The abbey one is pretty far along so may be ok, the Yorkshire Building Society application was for the 5 year capped tracker and to be honest I have a feeling they are just looking for excuses not to give people this mortage now. They have already offered me less than I asked for even though I have the 25% deposit and can comfortably afford to pay the mortgage and bills without any contribution from my boyfriend. Luckily I have an extra bit put by for decorating but think they might use this to lower the offer further.0
