Bank lost my contract for a loan

I need serious help, It all started with me wanting to repay my loan off early and i expected a early settlement charge. When they came back to me they quoted £5000 which sounded far to high. So i requested a copy of the contract as they never sent me one, but they then said that it was unavailable to them at that time, that was 5 months ago. My solicitor has advised me to write a letter to them stating i want a copy of the contract within 14 days ( I have written many letters to them in last five months they tell me i should sign a new contract asap). I got the loan out in late 2001 for £90,000. A couple of days ago they demanded the remainder of the loan including the over draft. Where do i stand, what are my options do i have to pay a loan back that there is no paper work for. How do you know how much there is to pay

Any advise greatly appreciated
