hey guys, I would like to go on a small trip with my GF this weekend to the highlands or around Scotland. I've been to the big cities, but we want to see the most visually stunning places like the highlands. I just have a couple of questions, hoping you can help-
1. What are THE places to go for that visual effect? (to give you an idea my GF loved St. Andrews & North Berwick)
2. If we don't have a car, what are the other cheap options to travel? train? group tours?
3. If group tours, any particular bargain services with good value for money?
4. If train, any particular type of ticket to max the weekend?
thanks

why not go up the west coast by train to Fort William. Trains leave from Glasgow and takes you through some stunning scenery. Once in Fort William you'd be able to bus it to Loch Ness and look for Nessie. Fort William itself has Ben Nevis and some stunning sea loch views. Or take the train onwards to Mallaig and visit Skye. You could do all this by car too...just re-read your post.
Otherwise take the car and do something similar....glasgow...fort william ...inverness and home down the A9 through spey valley, Aviemore...perth.x x x0 -
I'd second a trip on the West Highland line up to Mallaig. Stunning scenery. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Torridon/Loch Carron area if you have time.
Otherwise from Edinburgh -Stirling via the Ochils (Alva area) to Loch Lomond, over Rannoch Moor and into Glen Coe from the South entrance (much the more impressive way through). Head for Fort William then decide to either head home via A86 and A9, or head to Inverness up the Great Glen then back A9 or get lost in Wester Ross where the scenery is breathtaking. It all depends on how much time you have. Whatever you do, I'll bet you love it!Apparently, if you lose one sense, others senses are enhanced. That's why those who have no sense of humour have an enlarged sense of self-importance.0 -
